Both Microsoft and Sony will be charging for multiplayer access when the next generation hardware launches this fall. Sony is allowing free-to-play titles to sit in front of the paywall, and one publisher is pushing to to have that same exemption apply to its upcoming game.
In an interview with OXM, Bethesda states that they are lobbying for The Elder Scrolls Online to be exempt from the multiplayer paywall. Vice president of public relations and marketing Pete Hines specifically called out Microsoft regarding talks about freeing The Elder Scrolls Online from an additional subscription fee (the publisher just announced the business model for the upcoming MMO).
The situation is the same with Sony, though. Right now, regardless of which console platform players choose, they'll have to pay two fees. Bethesda hasn't been successful yet with Microsoft, but Hines indicates that the publisher will "keep pushing on to see if there's something that can be done."
Also to consider they was planning to charge $15/month. At first I was very happy that they was going to have Skyrim online but when I read about $15/month plus another $5/month for online assess for the Xbox 1 and PS4 online services. I said NO<NO>NO .I just play my old Skyrim on the PS3
I do hope Bethesda work it out !
NO I do hope they get it right. I was also looking forward to play Skyrim with buddies but now it look like I'm not.Its sad
ReplyDeleteI was hoping just paying for the monthly PS 4 online service would be enough. Now they want a double take, I know that Bethesoda make no money on that $5/month online service xbox or PS4 .I thought the $70/game would be it but that is their fee for making the game....I quess make it free for a while than charge people money but no $20 maybe $5. Making people pay for a game they already pay for is wrong but they need some cash the poor game developer!!
ReplyDeleteGet used to this paying just to do a game online. it start on both the xbox 360 and PS3 to buy a online pass. I think you can also play this game in single player mod as well!
